About Empty Bowls
The San Antonio Potters Guild, in association with the San Antonio Glass Arts Guild, Alamo Woodturners Association, the Southwest School of Art, and SAMMinistries presents the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser for SAMMinistries at the Southwest School of Art.
SAMMinistries prevents homelessness in San Antonio through a compassionate, holistic approach that brings self-sufficiency, pride and dignity to struggling families with nowhere else to turn.
Guild members produce the handmade bowls sold for a nominal fee. Soup is provided by local restaurants and caterers and served by culinary students and volunteers. Also featured is a silent auction of donated works by artists in a variety of media.
Empty Bowls 2021
The 2021 Event was held on March 7 and was a success!
The San Antonio community continued to support the event even with the pandemic in full force. The production of bowls in 2020 left 1500 bowls in storage. This overage allowed the 2021 event to be held as bowl-a-thon activities through out the year could not be held.
The event had to be moved from the Southwest School of Art to the SAMMinistries Administraion building parking lot because of the COVID restrictions at the school. It was an online order and drive through event. Attendees had five choices of bowl packages that could be ordered a week before. Volunteers put the orders together on Saturday and bowls were picked up on Sunday at a given time.
A special "thank you" goes out to all the potters that have participated in the many hours of bowl production and support the past 21 years.
